About Us
“Blindness separates us from things, but deafness separates us from people.”
~ Helen Keller
Our Story
Songs for Sound was born out of one family’s determination to ensure that no one lives without the ability to hear and connect with the world. When Lexi, the founder's daughter, was 14 months old, her family discovered she was profoundly deaf. After a year and a half of "just wait" mentalities and misinformation, Lexi was finally diagnosed as being deaf. Four months later, Lexi received the life-changing gift of hearing when she was implanted bilaterally with cochlear implants at The Vanderbilt Bill Wilkerson Center. This experience opened their eyes to the gaps in awareness, access, and care for hearing loss.
Motivated by Lexi’s journey, mom, Jaime Motes, founded Songs for Sound in 2011 to help others facing similar struggles—especially veterans, seniors, children, and underserved communities. 80-90% of people who could benefit from hearing technology, aren't seeking help. Lack of awareness, access and the need to educate and encourage action -- became a life's mission for Jaime.
Today, Songs for Sound is a 501(c)(3) charity has freely given of 33,000 free hearing screenings, developed a robust Care Team, freely gives free hearing health dashboards to navigate care and aims to build better hearing health systems all over the world. Songs for Sound believes in meeting people where they are in everyday life, providing a free hearing screening, compassionate guidance and moving people into existing, quality and affordable care.
What started as a personal mission for one little girl has grown into a worldwide effort to ensure no one is left without the chance to hear.
